ADHD Evaluation at Mental Serenity Psychiatric Services

Our Approach

We offer comprehensive ADHD evaluations for adolescents and adults, designed to be clear, supportive, and clinically thorough.

Our goal is to help you understand your symptoms, receive an accurate diagnosis when appropriate, and leave with a clear, individualized treatment plan — whether or not ADHD is ultimately diagnosed.

ADHD Evaluation & Treatment Services

What is an ADHD Evaluation?

What the Evaluation Includes

What is an ADHD Evaluation?

An ADHD evaluation is a structured, comprehensive assessment designed to determine whether symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity are consistent with a diagnosis of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Many individuals seeking an evaluation experience challenges such as:

  • Difficulty sustaining attention and completing tasks
  • Chronic procrastination and forgetfulness
  • Disorganization at work, school, or in daily life
  • Trouble managing time and meeting deadlines
  • Restlessness or impulsive decision-making
  • Emotional dysregulation, frustration, or overwhelm

Our evaluations are evidence-based and clinically thorough, incorporating a detailed review of your medical and mental health history, symptom patterns across settings, and the real-life impact of these symptoms. This comprehensive approach helps ensure an accurate diagnosis and thoughtful treatment recommendations, tailored to your individual needs.

Who This Evaluation Is For

What the Evaluation Includes

What is an ADHD Evaluation?

An ADHD evaluation may be appropriate if you experience:

  • Difficulty with attention, focus, or organization

  • Chronic procrastination or task initiation problems

  • Restlessness, impulsivity, or racing thoughts

  • Emotional overwhelm or difficulty regulating stress

  • Longstanding academic, work, or daily life challenges

  • Concerns that ADHD may have been missed or misdiagnosed earlier in life.

What Happens After the Evaluation

Our ADHD evaluation is a multi-step clinical process designed to support diagnostic accuracy and individualized care.

  • Three 60-minute clinical visits, beginning with a comprehensive intake evaluation

  • Ongoing follow-up visits to further assess symptoms, functional impact, and response to interventions

  • Careful evaluation for other conditions that may mimic or coexist with ADHD, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or sleep disorders

If alternative or co-occurring conditions are identified, the evaluation and treatment plan may evolve accordingly, in close coordination with you. Our approach is collaborative, flexible, and focused on ensuring the most appropriate diagnosis and care plan.

What Happens After the Evaluation

What If It’s Not ADHD? What Comes Next?

What Happens After the Evaluation

At the conclusion of the assessment, we will:

  • Review diagnostic impressions with you

  • Discuss whether diagnostic criteria for ADHD are met

  • Provide individualized treatment recommendations, which may include:

    • Medication options, when clinically appropriate

    • Behavioral and lifestyle strategies

    • Therapy or ADHD coaching referrals

    • Academic or workplace accommodations, when indicated

  • Answer your questions and clearly outline the next steps

A diagnosis of ADHD is not guaranteed. Our priority is diagnostic accuracy, patient safety, and individualized, ethical care.

Important Information About ADHD Evaluations

At Mental Serenity Psychiatric Services, ADHD evaluations are offered as part of an ongoing therapeutic relationship. We do not conduct ADHD evaluations for individuals seeking assessment only with the intent to return to another provider for continued care, including PMHNP-BCs or psychiatrists.

Please note that we do not perform neuropsychological evaluations. These specialized assessments are provided by licensed psychologists.

Our goal is to provide thorough, ethical ADHD evaluations for clients seeking long-term care and follow-up treatment within our practice.

Why Choose Mental Serenity for ADHD Evaluation & Care?

Choosing an ADHD provider matters. At Mental Serenity Psychiatric Services, we prioritize accuracy, safety, and individualized care — not rushed or checklist-based diagnoses.

Comprehensive, Thoughtful Evaluations

Our ADHD assessments go beyond questionnaires. We take the time to understand:

  • How symptoms affect your daily functioning
  • Your developmental and mental health history
  • Conditions that may overlap with or mimic ADHD (such as anxiety, trauma, sleep disorders, or burnout)

This ensures diagnoses are clinically sound and appropriate.

Specialized ADHD & Psychiatric Expertise

Evaluations are conducted by a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with expertise in:

  • Adult and adolescent ADHD
  • Differential diagnosis
  • Evidence-based psychopharmacology
  • Co-occurring anxiety, mood, and trauma-related conditions

Individualized, Collaborative Treatment

If ADHD is diagnosed, treatment is never one-size-fits-all. We work collaboratively to develop a plan that may include:

  • Medication options when clinically indicated
  • Behavioral strategies and psychoeducation
  • Therapy, coaching, or skills-based referrals
  • Support for school or workplace accommodations

Your preferences, goals, and comfort always guide care.

Ethical & Responsible Prescribing

We follow state and federal prescribing guidelines and do not provide stimulant prescriptions without appropriate clinical justification. Our focus is long-term stability and safety, not quick fixes.

ADHD-Informed, Patient-Centered Care

We understand that ADHD can make healthcare feel overwhelming. Our approach is:

  • Clear and structured
  • Supportive and nonjudgmental
  • Designed to reduce confusion and anxiety
  • Respectful of neurodiversity and individual strengths

Continuity of Care

We don’t disappear after the evaluation. Ongoing follow-up is available for:

  • Medication management
  • Symptom monitoring
  • Treatment adjustments
  • Long-term support

Accessible, Multi-State Services

We offer telehealth services for clients in:

  • Connecticut
  • New York
  • Rhode Island

This allows for flexible, consistent care that fits into real life.

🌸 Embracing Neurodiversity🌸

🌸 Your Brain, Your Strength 🌸

At Mental Serenity Psychiatric Services, we believe that being neurodivergent doesn’t mean something is wrong—it means your brain functions differently, not deficiently. 🌿

Many individuals with ADHD have incredible creativity, problem-solving skills, high energy, and resilience—traits that bring unique value and strengths to the world. While challenges with focus, time management, and executive function can be frustrating, they do not define you.

🌼 Your brain is not broken—it’s beautifully wired in its own way.

🌿 Learning how to work with it, rather than against it, is the key to thriving.

✨ Let’s embrace neurodiversity together and unlock your full potential!
